Nature of Modern Mathematics and
Reality.
The mathematician Edward Frenkel wrote a
valuable book introducing modern mathematics for laic people (may be not so much), that certainly is of interest to their intellectual evolution, since it
indicates how to take flight toward higher levels of abstraction, which seem to
allow a deeper understanding on the nature of things.
The study of modern mathematics is under
development already since a few centuries ago and continues in full expansion
through cutting-edge research, now in progress around the world. Mathematics
looks something like a "language" that allows access to an
instruction manual for "Legos" that underlie the structure and
functioning of "worlds", it seems to be the expression of a universal
and timeless Intelligence through which we can understand, within
limits , all worlds possible : past, present and future. Our present
world or reality seems just one among an infinity.
His book "Love and Math" is a rare opportunity
to provide lay people with a glimpse of modern mathematics, even without
mastering the techniques that account for the development of such research,
whose domain requires talent, effort and dedication in a life devoted to work
on these issues. Maybe everyone will have, occasionally, to undertake this kind
of studies, in the highlands of abstraction, to approach the heart of hidden
reality, with reverence and gratitude. The hope is that Nature, in some way,
provides us with more "existences or existence", to allow all,
occasionally, the walk along this path of learning, understanding and
redemption.
Follows the transcript of the first paragraph
of the preface of the book "Love and Mathematics" which is also an
invitation to begin this redemptive journey of understanding. "There is a
secret world out there. A hidden parallel universe of beauty and elegance,
intertwined intricately with ours. It is the world of mathematics, and is
invisible to most of us. This book is an invitation to the discovery of this
world. "
